Luxaire® LX Series Gas Furnaces Provide High Efficiency in Small Package 33-inch furnaces feature AFUE ratings as high as 96 percent

NORMAN, OKLA. - (Sept. 3, 2009) - The new LX Series of multi-position gas furnaces from Luxaire® (www.joinluxaire.com) combines a compact design with high-efficiency performance and equips heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) dealers with yet another option for selling to homeowners. In addition, all condensing models qualify for the federal tax credit program.

The unit's 33-inch cabinet makes it the ideal choice for installations where space is limited: basements, closets, alcoves, attics, recreation rooms and garages. Contractors who install the units will also appreciate its simple multi-position design, solid removable bottom panels that make conversion easy, a lack of knockouts and a patent-pending, self-priming internal condensate trap, which combine to make installation easy.

Servicing is easy, too, thanks to ¼-turn knobs for door removal. Units also feature access to controls to connect power/control wiring, a fully supported blower assembly for improved access and blower removal, and high-level, self-diagnostics with fault code display.

Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings on models in the LX Series are as high as 96 percent (80 percent models are also available). The series includes single-stage models that feature a five-speed, direct-drive, X13-style high-efficiency DC motor that increases SEER ratings in the cooling mode. Also included are two-stage models that feature a variable-speed electronically commutated motor (ECM) to circulate air for longer periods of time, equating to consistent temperatures and improved air filtering, resulting in cleaner, more comfortable air. Variable-speed models also include GeoTrak technology, which provides homeowners with customizable airflow based on the region in which they live.

These units employ an induced combustion, reliable hot surface ignition and a high heat transfer aluminized tubular heat exchanger. Quiet inducer operation and an insulated blower compartment combine to ensure quiet operation, while external air filters offer maximum flexibility to meet indoor quality needs. Timed-on, adjustable-off blower capabilities in select models deliver maximum comfort to the homeowner.

End users can take advantage of a generous warranty program. 80% models include a 20-year warranty on the heat exchanger while condensing models include a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger. When used in a commercial application, the heat exchanger warranty is 10 years on either model. In addition to the heat exchanger warranty, all models include a 10-year limited parts warranty when the furnace is registered within 90 days of purchase. If registration does not occur in the specified time frame, the parts warranty defaults to five years.

Luxaires New Ovation Commercial Split Systems Feature Efficient, Environmentally Friendly Operation

Luxaire's® New Ovation™ Commercial Split Systems Feature R-410A Refrigerant and MicroChannel Technology for Efficient, Environmentally Friendly Operation
Ovation split systems include condensing units, heat pumps and air handlers NORMAN, OKLA. - (June 25, 2009) - The new Ovation™ line of commercial split cooling and heat pump systems from Luxaire® (www.joinluxaire.com) uses environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant and MicroChannel technology to deliver compact, efficient operation in 7.5- to 20-ton capacities. The Ovation systems are EPAct 2010-compliant and incorporate aluminum MicroChannel coil technology along with scroll compressors to increase system efficiency. One- and two-stage operation improves part-load efficiency and comfort levels, and the capacity range and refrigerant piping configurations (two or four pipes) make Ovation the system of choice for almost any application. Redesigned from the ground up using the reliable platform of the existing Ovation packaged product, the new system enjoys all the benefits of the original product, including a proven design at a competitive price. Operation is quiet, thanks to vertical discharge condenser fans that direct sound upward and away from any surrounding structures, and rubber mounting that reduces scroll compressor vibrations. Air handlers feature factory-installed standard and oversized motor options, techni-coated indoor coils for corrosion protection and a standard two-inch filter rack that can easily be field-converted to accept four-inch filters. The air handlers also include adjustable thermostatic expansion valves, liquid line solenoids for capacity reduction and an adjustable motor sheave to allow airflow flexibility in the field. System units come completely assembled, piped and wired at the factory to provide one-piece shipment and rigging. In the field, Simplicity® microprocessor controls provide easy set-up and programming as well as alarm monitoring. Johnson Controls Employees Hold Garage Sale, Auction to Benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation®

Donations exceed $5,000 to fund wish for Oklahoma child

NORMAN, OKLA. - (May 15, 2009) - The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oklahoma will grant a wish to another Oklahoma child, thanks to the generosity of employees at the Johnson Controls-Unitary Products’ manufacturing facility in Norman, Okla. Employees at the plant recently donated more than $5,500 to the nation’s largest wish-granting charity by participating in a garage sale and silent auction at the plant.

According to Brenda Keith, marketing project manager-Unitary Products, the garage sale featured a variety of new and gently used clothing that displayed the York®, Coleman® and Luxaire® brands.

"We had wearables ranging from leather jackets to caps and visors - things that had been worn once or twice at trade shows, sales meetings, etc.," Keith said. "We asked for a minimum donation of $5 for most clothing items and $20 for the heavier outerwear."

This was the fourth consecutive year that the Norman facility hosted the garage sale. "But this was the first time we tied the garage sale to a silent auction," Keith noted. The auction encouraged employees to submit bids for merchandise over a period of five days. Bids were updated daily, giving employees on every shift the opportunity to see the current high bid.

"We were really pleased with the participation of our employees in the bidding process," said Keith. "In all, we received 239 bids. I guess it’s true what they say: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!"

Together, the garage sale and silent auction raised enough money to sponsor the wish of an Oklahoma child living with a life-threatening medical condition. Speaking on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma, Erin Byers, the chapter’s director of development, said, "You did a spectacular job, and we are going to be able to grant another wish of an Oklahoma child as a result of your efforts."

Keith was thrilled with the results and the generosity employees demonstrated.

"One employee lost his $500 bid to a bid for $700," she said. "However, when the winner withdrew his bid, this same employee split the difference between the two bids and increased his bid to $600. He didn’t have to do that, but he told me he wanted to because it was for a good cause.

"I heard that over and over again," she continued. "People told me, ‘This is great because it’s for such a good cause; It’s neat that the money will be used locally; I’m really happy to support this organization; and When are we going to do it again?’"

According to Keith, several employees increased their donation when they picked up their merchandise. "In addition, we had an employee who donated a $100 American Express gift card to the Make-A-Wish organization." These acts of generosity were as important to Keith as the total amount that was donated. "We are really excited at the support shown from the entire facility for this great cause."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. It is the largest wish-granting charity in the nation, with 66 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 171,000 heartfelt wishes since 1980.

Earlier this year, Johnson Controls, through its Luxaire brand, signed its third three-year contract with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. This extends the partnership with the nation’s largest wish-granting organization into 2011 and commits $675,000 in contributions over three years.

Luxaire first embarked on a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2001, agreeing to donate a portion of every sale of a Luxaire product toward its minimum annual contribution of $250,000. Since that time, Luxaire has donated more than $1.75 million to the organization, enough to grant the wishes of 250 children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.

The Luxaire network of distributors and dealers also works with Make-A-Wish chapters to organize a variety of fundraising activities, including raffles, golf outings and events affiliated with minor league baseball, Central Hockey League and Arena Football League teams. Using money raised by these and other fundraising activities, Luxaire has directly sponsored the wishes of more than 80 children in dealer markets.

Luxaire encourages homeowners to participate in the program by donating all or a portion of product rebates to their local Make-A-Wish chapter during spring and summer promotions of Luxaire brand products. A number of redesigned marketing materials will continue to support the program and raise consumer awareness.

Luxaire® Distributor Solar Supply Teams Up with Make-A-Wish Foundation® to Sponsor Special Children at Houston Astros Games

HVAC distributor will send Make-A-Wish children and their families to 12 Astros games

NORMAN, OKLA. - (April 27, 2009) - April 7 was a night of firsts at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros baseball team. The team won its first game of the 2009 season, defeating the Chicago Cubs 3-2. In addition, the Astros organization launched its year-long celebration of the club's tenth season at the ballpark, and Luxaire® (www.joinluxaire.com) distributor Solar Supply, Inc. hosted the first of at least 12 Make-A-Wish® children and their families at the baseball game.

The 2009 baseball season represents the fifth year that Solar Supply has sponsored these special children and their families at Minute Maid Park. The baseball experience includes tickets to a game, food and drink money and additional funds to cover a trip to the souvenir shop.

"The goal is to create an evening of fun that will not cost the family anything," said Quitman Moon, Solar Supply regional sales manager. "These are special children and families, and we just want them to enjoy the game and everything that comes with it. If we're lucky enough to put a smile on their face, well, then we put one on ours as well."

Solar Supply's sponsorship of Make-A-Wish children at Houston Astros games complements the partnership between the nation's largest wish-granting organization and Luxaire. "It's a way for our dealers and their employees to give back to the communities where they live and work," said Moon. "It's an incredible experience for all of us, whether it's contributing to the granting of a wish or treating a family to a baseball game. I think it's safe to say that we get as much, if not more, out of the experience as we give."

Luxaire® Adds New 14.5 SEER Heat Pump to LX and Climasure™ Series

Unit brings year-round energy savings to mid-efficiency product lines

NORMAN, OKLA. - (April 20, 2009) - A new 14.5 SEER heat pump is the latest addition to the Luxaire® (www.joinluxaire.com) LX and Climasure™ Series of residential air conditioners and heat pumps.

The sleek new unit improves year-round heating and cooling efficiencies, with a heating season performance factor (HSPF) as high as 9.0 and a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) of 14.5. A demand defrost system reduces energy costs by cycling the unit into defrost mode only when it is needed.

"By delivering improved energy efficiencies, the new 14.5 SEER heat pumps in the LX Series are eligible for the new federal tax credit and most local utility rebates," said Walt Jacobe, Luxaire brand manager. "However, dealers should refer to the unit’s technical guide to verify that a specific model qualifies."

The heat pump uses environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant in a system protected from moisture, dirt and other contaminants by a filter drier. The solid core filter dryer, in combination with high-pressure and low-pressure relief valves, also extends the life of the compressor.

Coils constructed of copper tubing with aluminum fins ensure durability and long-lasting, efficient operation. Operation is also quiet, due to added sound insulation and special mounting to reduce noise. Fan blades are designed to move air quietly, and the upward airflow carries normal operating noise away from the home.

The new 14.5 SEER heat pump is available in 1.5- to 5-ton capacities. Installation of the LX Series 14.5 SEER heat pump is especially easy thanks to the unit’s compact footprint. Fully exposed refrigerant connections and a single panel covering the electrical controls make servicing the new 14.5 SEER heat pump easy as well. In addition, secured re-usable service valves on both the liquid and vapor sweat connections ensure easy evacuating and charging.

Luxaire's® New 2009 Marketing Campaign Highlights Partnership with Make-A-Wish Foundation®

Ads, online banners and new trade destination Web site support campaign

NORMAN, OKLA. - (April 15, 2009) - Luxaire® (www.joinluxaire.com) announces the launch of a new marketing campaign that highlights the brand's exclusive partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.

The Luxaire campaign addresses the Make-A-Wish partnership in a series of "My Wish" print ads that invite prospective dealers to help make a child's wish come true. The ads also drive readers to a Make-A-Wish landing page that resides on the new dealer Web site.

In addition to information about the Luxaire partnership with the Make-A-Wish organization, the landing page features an interactive map that enables visitors to roll over distributor locations and view the number of wishes granted by a particular distributor. The page also includes a tally of the total corporate contributions to the Make-A-Wish organization.

"The entire Web site embraces a message of feeling good -- not only about Luxaire's commitment to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but also about the products, tools and support available to Luxaire dealers," said Walt Jacobe, Luxaire brand manager.

The new Web site adds a news section, site search, distributor locator and sustainability section to the home page. Flash animation provides reasons to become a Luxaire dealer or distributor, and a features scroller at the bottom of the page highlights new products, the In-Home Selling Tool and other Luxaire initiatives. In addition, a special 70th anniversary icon takes readers to a page that highlights the history of the Luxaire brand.

According to Jacobe, product and support sections have also changed. "We expanded the product section to include the residential and commercial product content that is currently available on the consumer site," he said.

"We also updated the dealer support section to include information about the new Marketing Action Center. This extensive online collection of marketing materials includes customizable ads, brochures, direct mail, door hangers, images and public relations templates -- all designed to improve a dealer's image and boost sales with professionally produced materials."

In addition to the new Web site and trade ads, Luxaire's 2009 marketing campaign includes online banners, tent cards and a launch kit designed to educate prospective dealers and distributors about Luxaire's commitment to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"The kit is comprised of a pocket folder with a four-page brochure insert, an updated Luxaire/Make-A-Wish DVD, a list of local Make-A-Wish chapters, a letter of introduction and a point-of-sales order form," said Jacobe. "All of these elements highlight the benefits that this winning partnership offers Luxaire distributors and dealers and points out just how easy it is to become part of the wish-granting process."

Luxaire's partnership with the nation's largest wish-granting organization began in 2001. Since then, Luxaire has contributed more than $1.75 million, based on a minimum annual goal of $250,000, and remains the only brand in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry that maintains a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"By partnering with this highly respected organization, Luxaire makes it easy for dealers to make a difference in their communities and create goodwill with their customers," said Jacobe. "The partnership is a real differentiator that sets Luxaire dealers apart from their competition and gives their customers another reason to purchase Luxaire products."

Luxaire's New Acclimate UVC Germicidal Light

Luxaire's New Acclimate UVC Germicidal Light Brings Bright Ideas to Indoor Air Quality
Product Radiates Ultraviolet Light to Kill Microbial Organisms in Home Comfort Systems

NORMAN, OKLA. - (February 11, 2009) - The new Acclimate™ UVC (ultraviolet "C" frequency) germicidal light from Luxaire (www.joinluxaire.com/mawpr) brings bright ideas to indoor air quality as it radiates the microbial organisms that accumulate and grow on wet surfaces of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.

These organisms (mold and fungus) are responsible for indoor air quality degradation, including the foul odor, otherwise known as "Dirty Sock" syndrome. The organisms also restrict airflow through the coil and limit heat transfer capability, which decreases performance and increases the operating costs of the equipment.

The new Acclimate UVC germicidal light is installed inside an HVAC system and irradiates the areas inhabited by the offending organisms, making it impossible for them to survive. As the organisms disappear, so do the odors and indoor air quality complaints.

To eliminate contaminants in HVAC systems, a UVC light must be able to provide maximum dosage of UVC energy at 45 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit in a rapidly moving airstream. Although many commercial lamps are designed for optimal performance at room temperature, the Luxaire Acclimate lamp uses a blend of inert gases in the bulb and a specialized power supply that maintains the optimal plasma temperature inside the bulb, even in a low temperature, moving airstream, making it the perfect application for an HVAC system.

By providing a lamp that with the highest output at low temperatures, the Luxaire Acclimate UVC germicidal light will kill target organisms in the shortest period of time. And, the mixture of gases creates a bulb which does not produce UV with wavelengths of less than 200 nanometers, meaning the new light does not contribute to ozone production.

The product's lamp assembly must be changed at or before 9,000 hours (approximately 12 months) of operation to maintain design output and to ensure germicidal effectiveness. An indicator light on the front panel of the power supply housing changes from blue to yellow to remind the consumer to contact the installing contractor to change the lamp. When the indicator light turns red, the lamp assembly must be replaced to maintain the highest level of performance.

The Acclimate UVC germicidal light is available in single and dual 115 and 208/230 volt models. To learn more, please contact your local Luxaire distributor.
